“Creativity is intelligence having fun.” – Albert Einstein

Who has two thumbs, wrote and produced over 20 theatrical productions, ran an empire as a pinup performance artist, invented an app, joined the circus, had her name in three Broadway playbills, sponsored an Olympic athlete, won Miss Congeniality at a conference for romance writers and has a champagne lounge named after her?

This woman.

Hello, I’m Laura von Holt, and I like to make things happen. I have been called “fearless” by the New York Times, and it’s true. I believe creativity is essential to our humanity, and that we are our own ruby slippers. I believe that you are capable of many amazing things, and that the world needs what you have to offer. I also believe that you have everything you need to make your dreams happen, but you might need some help getting out of your own way.

I don’t believe in self-loathing or waiting for someday to come around. I do believe that our first job is to love ourselves, and our second job is show it. That means whether you want to write a book, start a business, build a blog or make a family, you owe it to yourself and the world to let your brilliance shine.

You will light your own fire. I will hand you a match.

“Be relentlessly you.” – Lady Gaga

Professional Bio

Laura von Holt is a writer, performer, entrepreneur and creativity coach from Hawai’i who lives in New York. Laura is the co-founder and Fairy Boss Mother of Cinderly, a tech and lifestyle brand that makes life a little more rainbow. Laura is the host of Cinderly’s Mermaid Podcast.

Laura is known for her dynamic energy, grounded presence and bright wit. She stumbled upon CIJ in a period where she was stuck with a paralyzing writer’s block. CIJ completely transformed the way Laura approached her work, and subsequently her life. Through her work with CIJ*, which is based on the Stanford Graduate School’s program “Creativity in Business,” Laura teaches people how to apply their creativity to challenges in their personal and professional lives.

Laura writes paranormal romances about mermaids, and literary fantasy about the dark side of fairytales. She is also a Pulitzer-contender and New York Times Critics’ Pick playwright, and the Co-Artistic Director of Little Lord, a Brooklyn-based theater company. Along with six authors (and badass business women), Laura founded HBIC Nation, a place to learn, share and grow your creative empire. For many years, Laura was best known as her alter ego, von Hottie, a pinup performance artist and champion for self-expression. When she is not on the ground, Laura is in the air as the sparkly half of the aerial comedy duo, “Flaming Mermaid Broken Star.”

Laura’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Daily Mail, The Huffington Post, Redbook, Current TV and Jezebel. She is a proud member of the Romance Writers of America.
