Instagram post 2179247529743569324_2411133761 I have a little idea brewing, so when I told @evegw that I wanted to go to Salem this weekend to “see some witch shit,” I was thrilled that she said, “OKAY!” (I needed both a research accomplice and someone to drive the broomstick.) One of the tours told us to point our camera at the graveyard in case we caught paranormal activity. Since I recently discovered I had some ancestors in Salem, I wanted to go IN the graveyard to say hello. Here is a selfie of me being sun-blessed by my puritanical forebearers, who don’t seem bothered by my wanton ways. Other highlights of the trip include riding on the trolley, many delicious cocktails (potions?) and hearing conflicting versions of paranormal events. Instagram post 2167005212181606335_2411133761 I tried really hard to find good photos from the Halloween parties that inspired Pumpkin Pounder, but they’re lost on a hard drive somewhere...and probably it’s best if they just live on in my memory alone. It was a wild time, what can I say? I did find this photo of a Halloween party at the Museum of Sex. I remember the theme was some sort of ancient erotica...so I dressed as a bride? I do remember the cast of The Donkey Show was there - and I freaking LOVED that show - and a cast member proposed to me next to some 13th century pornography. ANYWAY, you can see why I had a ton of material to draw from for Pumpkin Pounder. There’s a link to a blog post about all the memes & secret bars that inspired the book (link in bio). For the record, Pumpkin Pounder is about a girl who likes redheads (not a girl who goes hard on the pumpkin spice lattes - although I love that idea & feel I missed an opportunity there). I know there’s a lot of hype these days on disruption and being a unicorn and having billion dollar ideas, so I try to offer a different perspective on cultivating a relationship with your creativity and your intuition that can carry you through any venture. I also offer my main takeaway up front, that obstacles are opportunities for deeper growth, that meeting a brick wall of frustration is step 2 in the process, not a sign that you should quit. I also charge them with a responsibility of self-care — that as much time as they spend learning systems and structures, they need to also cultivate a relationship with their own inner wisdom, with their own working process, so they can have the fortitude to be a person who puts ideas into the world. For those of you who have only met me recently, this was the era of my life in which I wore a vintage swimsuit and walked around New York City & Paris in a trenchcoat, throwing off the trenchcoat when I found a background I wanted to take a photo in front of. I called it guerrilla performance art. It was pre-Instagram so I made calendars for the collections. I was ahead of my time. I’m always amazing. Anyway, I am selling the calendars for $5 each.
